Cabbage are hardy, cool season biennials growing optimally in either early spring, fall or for overwintering. Prefering fertile, well draining soils with regular fertlization and a pH above 6.0. Early spring varieties can be transplanted after danger of hard frost has passed. Fall season varieties can be started indoors in mid May and transplanted outdoors in June to early July for fall harvest. Consistent and even watering is necessary to prevent head splitting.
