Bells of Ireland

$1.00

Moluccella laevis

Bells of Ireland are the perfect touch of springy greenery for your garden or arrangement. With leaves that are curled in to look like bells, these won’t fail to make you think of happy moments ahead.

Seed Count: approximately 50 seeds

Plant Height: 24-48”

Light Requirements: full sun

Soil Preference: average fertility and loose, moist soil

USDA Zones: 4-9 (annual)

How to Grow

Germination: 14-21 days at 65-70F, chilling and light required for germination

Seeding Depth: surface sow seeds, can cover with light vermiculite layer

Plant Spacing: 12”

Days to Maturity: 90-110 days

Early-Season Seeding: Start seeds 6-8 weeks before your last frost date in spring. Direct seed outdoors after the last frost date in spring or when soil temperature is above 60F.

Late-Season Seeding: Direct seed outdoors at least 16 weeks before the first frost date in fall.

Growing Tips: Chill seeds for 1-2 weeks at 35-40F to encourage germination. Do not cover seed after sowing because light is required for germination. Water from below or regularly mist until seeds germinate to prevent them from drying out or the soil being disturbed. Sow in at least 3” of soil since plants have a deep tap root that resists transplanting.

Cut Flower: Harvest when flowers are ½ open and green. Stems can be harvested after blooms feel firm. Hang upside down in a dark, dry room for 4-5 weeks.
