Separating Dahlia Tubers

Buying a dahlia (and other geophytes) can be an investment. As dahlias store nutrients in their root structure, they will often produce additional tubers off the main stem. Those new growth tubers can be carefully separated from the body of your original tuber, stored, and planted, allowing your original tuber to proliferate over the years. In this post, Maegen walks through the process of how to properly and carefully separate new growth tubers from your original dahlia so you can generate additional plants from your original tuber.

Maegen has a Masterโ€™s Degree in Horticulture from Utah State University. She is a highly knowledgable resource on all things garden.
