Amaryllis

Amaryllis are a great plant that are very popular in the winter months and can add some much needed color to any home when outdoor planting isn’t possible. Amaryllis bulbs are a geophyte, meaning that the bulb itself is a storage organ, holding essential nutrients in the “scales”. As such, amaryllis are unique in that they can grow without being planted and produce flowers relying solely on stored nutrients inside the bulb. In this post, Meagen details everything you need to know about amaryllis bulbs, including how to trim back flowers, stems, and leaves, to keep your amaryllis healthy all season long.

Meagen has a Master’s Degree in Horticulture from Utah State University and is an expert in cut flowers.
